Statutory purpose
Selskapets skal være en aktør innen avfallssektoren gjennom håndtering av avfall fra så vel husholdninger og institusjoner som forretninger og annen næringsvirksomhet, og kan etablere, eie og drive anlegg for renovasjon i de deltakende kommuner etter de krav myndighetene stiller. Etter anmodning fra representantskapet kan selskapet ta på seg andre oppgaver som det er naturlig å utøve. Selskapet skal på eget initiativ løpende vurdere aktuelle sider ved avfallssektoren og spørsmål knyttet til renovasjon, gjenvinning og omsetning, og komme med tilrådninger om nye tiltak eller endringer. SOR kan tegne selskaper som er organisert i henhold til norsk aksjelovgivning, alene eller i samarbeid med andre, opprette samarbeid eller IKS med andre kommuner eller IKS, og påta seg oppgaver for andre kommuner eller selskap. Selskapet skal ha kompetanse til å rådgi og være konsultativt organ for eierne i forurensningsspørsmål. Selskapet skal arbeide for en miljøriktig håndtering av avfallet i egenregi eller i samarbeid med andre. Selskapet er knyttet til eierkommunenes felles innkjøpsordning.
