Agreement with Cleaning Help – What Should Be Written Down

A good agreement doesn't have to be complicated. It should clarify what needs to be done, what it costs, and what happens if the plan changes.
It is important to distinguish between a service agreement with a business and an employment contract when you engage a private individual as an employee. If in doubt, you should check the guidance from the Norwegian Tax Administration (Skatteetaten) and the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority (Arbeidstilsynet).
Parties to the Agreement
Include full name and contact information. For businesses, the organization number should be in the agreement. Also, check the business's status in the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority's cleaning register.
The Tasks
Describe:
- which rooms are included
- tasks for each visit
- tasks only done occasionally
- what is not included
- who provides products and equipment
- how extra work is ordered
Time and Frequency
Agree on the date, time frame, and how often the cleaning will be performed. State what happens on public holidays, vacation, illness, or delays.
Need cleaning help?
Describe your home and what you need help with. Relevant companies can then send you quotes. The service is free and non-binding. (The job form is in Norwegian.)

The agreement should show:
- hourly rate or fixed price
- expected time spent for hourly rates
- what additional charges may apply
- whether VAT is included
- payment due date and payment method
- how price changes are announced
Keys, Alarm, and Privacy
Describe how access is granted, who can use the key or code, and how the information should be stored and deleted. Limit access to what is necessary.
Do not put sensitive information in the public job advertisement on Proffi. It can be shared in a private conversation after you have chosen whom you wish to communicate with.
Damage and Complaints
Clarify who you contact, how quickly an incident should be reported, and what documentation is needed. Ask the company to provide information about relevant liability insurance if this is important for the assignment.
Cancellation and Termination
Include the deadline for cancellation, any fees, and how a regular agreement is terminated. Avoid unclear or long binding periods that you do not need.

Frequently asked questions
Must the agreement be in writing?
A written agreement reduces misunderstandings and makes it easier to document what was agreed upon.
Do I need an employment contract?
If you engage a private individual as an employee, labor and employer rules may apply. This is different from purchasing an invoiced service from a business.
Can the provider increase the price?
The agreement should explain how and when price changes can be announced. Extra work should be approved before it is performed.
