How to find serious cleaning services
A serious provider should be easy to identify, clear on pricing, and specific about what the service includes. Take a few minutes to check before granting anyone access to your home.
1. Check the business
Find the organization number and verify that the business is active. Businesses selling cleaning services in Norway must be approved by the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority. This also applies when the customer is a private individual.
Check the status directly in the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority's cleaning register. A logo or text on the supplier's own page is not enough.
2. Request a written offer
The offer should state:
- which rooms and tasks are included
- hourly rate or fixed price
- expected time spent
- whether VAT is included
- transport, parking and products
- price for extra work
- date, frequency and duration
- cancellation policy

Look for reviews that describe specific jobs. Consider both the number, date, and how the company responds to criticism. No supplier should be marketed as «best» without a real and documented comparison.
4. Clarify who will be coming
Ask if it's normally the same person, and what happens in case of illness or holiday. Also clarify if subcontractors may be used.
5. Agree on access and keys
Find a solution that limits risk. Ask how keys or codes are stored, who gets access, and how they are returned. Do not label a key with your full address.
6. Clarify damage and complaints
Ask what you should do if something is damaged or the cleaning does not conform to the agreement. Document valuable or vulnerable items in advance and report quickly if something happens.
Warning signs
Be cautious if the provider:
- is unwilling to provide identity or organization number
- only accepts payment without receipt
- does not provide a written price or agreement
- presses you for quick payment
- claims to be approved without it being verifiable
- asks for unnecessary access to your home, alarm, or personal information

Should I ask for an inspection?
For large or unusual jobs, an inspection can provide a more precise offer. For regular home cleaning, good information and photos are often sufficient.
