Apartment Cleaning: What you should know
Apartment cleaning is a thorough cleaning before the property is handed over. It differs from normal weekly cleaning because cabinets, drawers, moldings, appliances, and other areas not typically cleaned every week must also be addressed.
Start with the agreement

Empty rooms, cabinets, and drawers. Remove rubbish, screws, and loose items. Defrost and empty the refrigerator and freezer if they are to be cleaned. Ensure electricity, hot water, light, and access throughout the job.

Correct order

Check before keys are handed over
Use a checklist and go through the home in good light. Look for grease, lime, dust, and marks. Take dated photos. For rented properties, the Tenancy Dispute Tribunal recommends a joint inspection, a move-out protocol, and photos, especially in case of disagreement.

Must walls be washed?
Not automatically. Stains and agreed-upon cleaning should be handled, but full wall washing must be specified because materials require different treatment.
